2 Features LinkedIn Should Add for 2014

double-feature

As I continue to build out my network and bolster my digital Rolodex on LinkedIn, the folks being added are starting to stack up. I like you, meet people all the time in various settings around conferences, meet-ups, and parties alike. And, like you, sometimes remembering how those connections were made can be fuzzy at best.

How/where I met you

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a notes field as a secondary connection section that helped you identify how the introduction was made? Met at SES 2013, or Friend of Joe Francisco. Some 80 plus character string field that can be hidden or revealed at will to jog your memory and the conversation that led to your eventual connection would be a real help.

Notes and Comments

The other feature I would like to see added is a “notes” section. Often I interview people without using their paper or PDF CV’s, relying solely on their LinkedIn profiles. The ability to added comments for interviews, last time contacted or skill sets not represented in their profiles would be super.

A feature like this could also be used for company pages to list who you have applied for a job with or take notes on and used as a tool comparison opportunity when researching companies you plan on doing business with in the future.

I realize adding a feature similar to this moves LinkedIn more towards a Contact Management System somewhat similar to SalesForce, however as I rely more and more on LinkedIn to manage my daily contact activities some type of notes other than messages and the archiving of messages would be a great addition to an already robust platform.
