3 Companies pwned by Facebook PageRank

What do Silly Bandz, Dunkin Donuts and Skittles have in common? Their main websites have lower PageRanks than do their Facebook company pages. Facebook has a PageRank 10 and passes that pagerank goodness to other pages on its site, specifically in this case, company pages setup on Facebook.

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, used by Google that assigns a numerical weighting, with the purpose of “measuring” a websites relative importance to other websites. In this case Facebook company pages are more important to Google than the companies websites themselves.

Just for fun, what do you think  Facebook should charge to let these companies retain those company pages on their site?

Lets take a look at these three companies whose page rank is lower for their own corporate websites than their Facebook company pages.

Companies often notice that other competitor  sites with a lower PageRank than theirs are sometimes  listed above them in the search engine results pages. While pages with a higher PageRank do tend to rank higher than those with lower scores, Facebook is not a direct  competitor to these companies. But clearly Facebook does wield a new power and can potentially capitalize on this ranking superiority sometime in the future.
